"In 1977 Heart's record label, Mushroom Records, fueled rumors that Ann and Nancy were lesbian lovers by running a full-page ad in Rolling Stone showing the sisters bare-shouldered and suggestively captioned, "It was only our first time". When a reporter suggested, backstage after a live appearance, that the sisters were sex partners, Ann returned to her hotel room and wrote the lyrics to "Barracuda" to relieve her frustration.[4] The song became one of Heart's biggest hits (#11, 1977)."
I think McCain/Palin should definitely stop playing Heart's version of "Barracuda". They should respect their copyrights. But they can always commission other groups, unknown ones, to create a song, totally unrelated to the Heart version, where the words "Palin" and "Barracuda" are in the lyrics. Hip hop.

I'd love to see Paul Anka's 'Having My Baby' used for Palin.

"Unfortunately for the Wilson sisters, "as the song is licensed for public performance under a blanket fee," and since the McCain campaign paid those fees to use the song, there is nothing Heart can do about its use."

McCain is fully "respecting their copyrights". The Wilson sisters put the license in the open market for a royalty fee, which the McCain campaign paid.
There is a bit of dishonesty here, in the Wilson's demanding that McCain "cease and desist" from using their song. This language is a term of art in court orders enjoining illegal activity. The Wilsons do not have, are not going to get, and are not even going to file a complaint seeking a "cease and desist" order, because the usage is legal.
What the Wilsons did was request that McCain stop using the song.
I'm not pro-McCain, but this crappy PR "spin" is a bit of unsavory dishonesty. And don't tell me it isn't dishonest, since it clearly fooled you, as it was intended to do.

Make that *a lot* of dishonesty.

The desperation of the left is becoming amusing. You'd almost think Sen. Obama is losing in the polls, the way they're lying about Gov. Palin. I'd like to see some of the more respectable liberals here challenge such assinine comments, but you're the only one who has.

Look at Zogby who has McCain Palin leading by2-3 points now. Their site claims they have been the best predictor in politics to date Don't know if thats true but all polls show O'bama slipping

"All polls"? Actually, the polls have been see-sawing back and forth but the vast majority show Obama ahead.
where Intrade projects an Obama win. Anything can happen between now and election day, but as it stands Obama has over 300 electoral college votes. McCain has a lot of ground to make up if he wants to over come that.

I have no knowledge of the Wilsons, the song or their agreements. But I wouldn't be too hard on them. If you are in the entertainment industry, TV, music or movies, doing any thing that even appears to be anti-Obama can be very hazardous to your career. And if an evil Republicans buys the rights to one of your songs and plays it, in the eyes of the left wingers, that qualifies as being anti-Obama.

Yeah, I'm not criticizing their right to object and ask him to stop.
