McCain is fully "respecting their copyrights".  The Wilson sisters put the
license in the open market for a royalty fee, which the McCain campaign
paid.

There is a bit of dishonesty here, in the Wilson's demanding that McCain
"cease and desist" from using their song.  This language is a term of art in
court orders enjoining illegal activity.  The Wilsons do not have, are not
going to get, and are not even going to file a complaint seeking a "cease
and desist" order, because the usage is legal.

What the Wilsons did was request that McCain stop using the song.

I'm not pro-McCain, but this crappy PR "spin" is a bit of unsavory
dishonesty.  And don't tell me it isn't dishonest, since it clearly fooled
you, as it was intended to do.
