What kind of crazy scheduling makes a team play a night game in Tampa and then take a charter flight across the country to play in Seattle the next night? No wonder they looked flat and exhausted because they WERE flat and exhausted. They probably reached their Seattle hotel for a few hours of sleep when people who going off to work there.
I blame the Yankee's player rep who should have taken the matter to the union with a complaint. I also blame Cashman for not speaking up that this was unfair and put his team at a disadvantage.
At the very least, it was a gesture to help Tampa with their mediocre attendance because an afternoon game would have drawn fewer fans than another night game.

+++++++++ I seem to recall that there has been a long standing feud between the Yankees and Rays over scheduling of games, particularly on getaway day games at the end of series. The Rays often schedule night games on a mid-week getaway game.
And I recall, about 4 years ago, the then Devil Rays had to travel from Florida to New York for a series, but a hurricane was hitting the Tampa area, and they could not get out. Cashman wanted the league to declare a forfeited game.

Get your facts straight, stupid. It wasn't Cashman. It was Randy Levine who has no business being President of the Yankees anyway. In any case, it has nothing to do with what the OP posted.

The same nimrods that have a team play two real games in Japan....some exhibition games in LA...then real games in Toronto.

Forfeit Follies I was supposed to broadcast the New York Yankees-Tampa Bay Devil Rays game scheduled for Monday afternoon that caused a controversy this week.
I traveled to New York on Monday after my Sunday night game in Cleveland and was originally told that the doubleheader between the Yankees and Devil Rays would be at 1 p.m. When I arrived in New York I learned that the doubleheader would start at 3 p.m. instead. Then, when I got to the ballpark, I was told that the Devil Rays hadn't even left Tampa yet.
I heard sound bites from the Yankees, including GM Brian Cashman, who said that the Devil Rays should have departed for New York on Friday and should forfeit the game. Since then, MLB rescheduled the missed game for Wednesday (making for a doubleheader), and the Yankees have dropped their forfeit request.
Normally, a rule is cut-and-dry, and the Devil Rays would have to forfeit the game. The Yankees technically have a case, but since Hurricane Frances is clearly an extenuating circumstance, I don't see how they could ask for a forfeit. The hurricane was bombarding Florida, and Devil Rays players have families and friends and homes there.

I stand corrected. In fact, Cashman should have been fined $100,000 by David Wells for "tarnishing the Yankees' image." Joe Morgan would not be someone I would use as a source to prove anything but I'll acknowledge that both Cashman and Levine were idiots and disgraced the Yankees in that affair.

What is even more outrageous is that when a typical loss results in 1/2 game loss in the standings, the league made it so this loss caused the Yankees to drop 11 1/2 out of the standings! Where is the justice?
