Overall, a pretty uneventful weekend. There were no marquee games, no particularly exciting games save for a couple involving bottom dwellar type teams(washington and mississippi), no real statement games by any team.
Obviously, if the buckeyes want to take down usc next week they have got to have better qb play than they got today. I don't think they can do it. Im calling that game right now actually.
Georgia looks very good. So does Oklahoma. Of course they're playing subpar competition to this point, but both offenses for those teams just have a ton of playmakers. Here is how I rank the sec teams at this point:
Georgia Florida
LSU
Auburn Alabama
Georgia is the only team of the bunch where there are no questions. They are good on both sides of the ball whereas Im still wondering about florida's ability to run the ball against decent defenses when harvin doesnt have the ball in his hands. And georgias qb is probably a little better as well. LSU is below both Georgia and florida because they have no qb. And auburn and bama are behind all three because their offenses are far too raw/unskilled to be in the georgia/ florida class.
Interesting note- of the top 15 teams right now, 10 are from the sec and big12.
I also want to talk a little bit about byu. The same crap happened last year with hawaii in that a supposed "bcs sleeper" from one of these nothing conferences hangs on to win a nailbiter against a horrid team from a big4 conference(same team both times actually) and it's not seen as a negative. I just have no interest in seeing a team like utah or byu or ecu in a bcs game.
As for the bcs bowl games, it's becoming very clear that one of those matchups should be between the bigleast and acc "champs". Also, I will no longer use the term "bcs conference" to refer to the 6 conferences in the bcs. Instead, the terms will be "big4" conference to denote the sec, big12, pac10, and bigten. For all other conferences to include the acc, mountain west, bigleast, conference usa, etc those will just be referred to as "non-big4 conference".
A little bit on ND- not bad, not bad at all. That schedule is so bad it's feasible they could win 8 games and get to the gator bowl or something.

and fortunately, next weekend is *much* better. These are some of the watchable games on tap for next saturday:
michigan-ND: the winner takes a big step towards getting the season going in the right direction.
georgia-south carolina: only interesting because it's in columbia and I want to see what georgia can do against a relatively decent defense.
wisconsin-fresno state: far far too many teams like fresno state with numbers before their name. Byu, fresno, utah, ecu this week. Wisconsin needs to go out west and beat them down so we can take at least one off the list.
auburn-mississippi state- im interested to see if auburn can make a statement by blowing a fairly bad team in MSU out and proving that they belong in the georgia/florida/lsu group....my guess is they dont.
ucla-byu: see wisconsin/fresno comments. I'll be rooting for neuheisal in this one.
Oregon-Purdue: weird matchup I guess, but oddly watchable in between other games.
Ohio State-USC: USC 38 Ohio State 20.
There is also a friday night game between kansas and south florida I find hilarious for many reasons.

Yeah, you really sucked Saturday night. You had a chance with the spotlight but you didn't take advantage of it and in the end, Florida smacked you pretty hard. I'll bet you don't want to see the gator chomp anytime soon.

He probably did, but not related to the Hurricanes. If you haven't noticed, they're not ranked in the top 3, so they're not one of "his" teams at the mo'. Please refer to the polls to "keep up."

hey, why not give us picks on these great games???
Do it right here.
Why would you find the Friday night game hillarious? It sounds like a good game for us college football fans to watch on an otherwise quiet night, no?

I think he decided to become a huge #1 fan of every team in the SEC except the bottom-feeding ones, thereby dropping all other affiliations for this particular season at least.

because friday night is a night for high school football. And for me friday night is not an "otherwise quiet" night....Im sure I'll be doing something interesting.
