Latching switch types ok for VCRs etc, with tight clearances but not here. 2
DPDT worn , leading to snap crackle and pop etc unless you hold the knob in
or out. There is about 2mm of play between the knobs and the holes in the
metal of the front/rear panels. Replace those 2 plus 2 more with same
flimsey 0.1 inch pin spacing switches and try and find or make larger knobs

Does the motor sound like it's not running at the normal speed?
With a capacitor, it means the motor is an induction motor. They
are basically single speed motors tied to the AC line frequency.sg

Tiniest of blobs of conductive epoxy on the cut end of some 40 gauge or less
copper wire , then other end soldered to the trace, while heatsinking the
middle?
How to get a tiny blob ? warm up the epoxy slightly and heat up the wire
prior to epoxying ? don't know have not tried it at any time

 Wow, thanks for that!
I have an old 660HW-61 where the switch (LAN) part started acting
weird. As it was out of warranty I bought another one.
I just checked the same cap, 220µF 10V, and got an ESR reading of 1.1
ohm, which is high. The other 220µF cap just besides it reads 0.14
ohms, which should be fine.
